Tesco Platinum....Payment Query

I have a Tesco Platinum card and received my statement that the payment would be taken from my account on the 21st and I have just looked at my on line banking and it was taken on the 15th. I rang Tesco CC dept and they said this is usual to take the direct debit out at least 5 days before. This would have been disastorous had I not had the money in my bank account. Is this correct? Anyone else got a Tesco Finest Platinum card where they take the payment out earlier than the the date on their statement.

My payments have always been taken on the day stated, will keep an eye out for this, as it is normally the day after my salary is paid in, so don't usually have to top the account up for payment day

This is dreadful. What date did you agree on when you signed the direct debit mandate? If it was the 21st then I would argue this, otherwise they could take the payment whenever they feel like it!!!! If its on your statement that it will be taken on the 21st then that's what it should be. I would normally have it in the day before just in case but not 5 days before! What utter cr*p!

I thought this couldn't be right I will call them again on Monday it clearly states the 21st on my statement. Thanks for the advice.
