It's Good to Walk

Signed up with BT around the same time they introduced It's Good To Talk ad campaign and remained on same contract something like 16 years - I was a very lazy customer.
Just received a confirmation email from new Telecom Provider telling me I am no longer with BT.
I found it easy to walk. Just phoned new provider. A few days later cheaper calls and good customer service - I have dealt with them before. Did not talk to BT but they did send an acknowledgement letter to confirm I was leaving.

I have a bad feeling about this.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

Care to name your new supplier ?
I did not do any research and just went with a company I had personal experience with other products. It was done after the last BT bill hit the mat. I been thinking about it for some time and had previously read what MSE had to say but not acted on it before.
BT served me very well for many years but things just went wrong in the end as they sometimes do.0 -
Little point in posting this info if you won't share the name of the new supplier?
And you've probably wasted the opportunity to get cashback by signing up on the phone rather than online. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Useful information about the cash back I may have missed out on.
I would like a Telecom company that I can forget about and use my phone. I suspect like with interest in bank savings account it is just not possible. If you leave the money in the same account they reduce the interest. If you stay in the same contract with a Telecom provider they put up prices. Insurance companies are the same. Such is life and is why we need sites like MSE.
When I been with the new provider a few years perhaps I will come back and update the thread to name them. I suspect I will be complaining about how much they are charging me also as I was too lazy to move - which may be the point of the thread.0 -
Hopefully it's not Talk Talk.Bought, not Brought0

I have a bad feeling about this.
Having read the links on your signatures I see there are alternatives to walking.
I also read your Save your Friends & Family money - DUMP 1571 post as this was my main problem. After BT removed all my Friends and Family discounts last year followed by price increases I was paying 16p for each of these calls - BT nowadays rounds calls up to the nearest penny so the 15.8p you mention was actually turning up as 16p on my bills (a lot of times). This also suggests that the 17.3p from 1-10-2010 you mention may turn up on bills as 18p after the next price increases.0 -
Hopefully it's not Talk Talk.
I was recommended Talk Talk by someone after BT removed all my friends and family discounts last year. At the time I decided to stay with BT as I wanted to keep things simple not much small print and extra costs for example late fees - even if I had to pay more for this privilege.
Turned out I was paying for little....somehow late fees and small print was all now part of my contract with BT - no idea when or how this happened. Finding out a late charge was going to be added at the same time I was complaining I did not understand why my next bill was so high was just unfortunate timing I guess.
I had a good relationship with BT before this.
With hindsight I should have read what MSE had to say a long time ago and saved myself trouble.0 -
Hopefully it's not Talk Talk.
Surely not TT doesnt exactly equate to cheap calls
see http://broadband.talktalk.co.uk/pricechange
and good customer service.:)0 -
Oh, no, you have joined Talk Talk haven't you? I wish you all the luck you will need if you ever have any problems with your service. The first and most difficult step is getting them to take ownership of the problem.Bought, not Brought0
