Who should I return this to?

Options
Now I am diligent reader of these boards but this is a little more complex than normal.

I bought an electrical item from Amazon.co.uk from a big international retailer because it's not available to buy over here on the continent. It comes with a standard UK plug. I bought it at the beginning of May and it broke down over the weekend. It's still under warranty so I can return it to be repaired but who am I best off sending it, bearing in mind that I'm not in the UK? Amazon in the UK, the customer service team in the UK for the company it's from or the customer service team here?

If its come from a non Uk company you have no recourse I'm afraid, but if its company that operates out of the UK you do. I belive Amazon will just be acting as intermediately and will have no legal repoonsibilty. But have you tryed contacting either of them?

THanks for the thoughts, it's come from a UK company- Amazon UK.

Just wondering who to contact first, but I'll do them tomorrow.

First port of call would be Amazon UK, unless you know the manufacturer will be able to deal with the problem quicker/more efficiently. Legally it's up to Amazon to sort so try them first.

Was it bought direct off Amazon themselves then and not one of their Marketplace sellers? If the Marketplace then take it up with the seller there with Amazon being a backup should you enter difficulties.

Suggest that you escalate and complain to Jeff Bezos, Amazon CEO via sending him an email at jeff@amazon.com.

Good luck and hope this helps.

Ok, this is just getting ridiculous.

The OP has not made even contacted amazon yet, and therefore to recommending that the first point of contact would be with the CEO is just stupid (unless the CEO works within the repairs department).

I realise you are just trolling these forums now, but to give advice like this will ultimately waste many peoples time.

I expect as always, as somebody hs disagreed with you, you will not respond.

I'd go to the manufacturer first - if they're international, they'll have a local repair centre. And that will be much easier.

If no luck, then contact Amazon UK.

Don't bother replying to him. Just escalate it and email his mother.
    Squirrel!
If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
    Now 20% cooler

(If people keep reporting his posts as abuse he might get banned or at least warned. On the other hand he might not, as I know this board is quite tolerant and he's not insulted anyone as such - well, in more than a general sense at least!)

I now think you are a troll. Either that or a complete nutter.

Jeff Bezos the CEO of Amazon, a multi-billionaire running a multi-jurisdictional, multi-billion business employing over 26,000 people.

And you think his email address is "jeff@amazon.com"? Even if it was, do you think he is going to take time out of his day in the USA to actually try to resolve this issue when the OP hasn't actually contacted customer services yet?

    Jog on.

I shall escalate it to sirmarcus, his mother, his brother and his underwear. What a knob.

Please ignore the troll everyone else.

    Cheers!
