Solicitor as Executor

Hi,

My mother left a solicitor as sole executor for her estate. I suspect this was suggested to her by the very same solicitor. As a result I've had to go head to head with an obstinate solicitor who refused to release cost information in advance, detailed explanations for costing or an explanation of the work done. I certainly am not allowed to see their file of work done. Needless to say the costs are very high: £12,000 for a £300,000 gross estate (with a £150,000 mortgage to be deducted).

It would seem that there is no regulatory body that I can call upon with the teeth to do anything about it.

I am looking to put something together to send to the so-called regulatory bodies to highlight the position I, and many others, have found themselves in. If you have found yourself in a similar predicament please respond.
