I second the Gilera Runner 50. I had one at 17 second hand. Could get up to 50mph on a flat road (don't know if that was legal). Sold it 2 years later for not much less than what I bought it for.0

Assuming it was a 50cc not very likely, The tacho's are not accurate after the legal 30mph they are meant to be restricted to.0 -

The Honda C50 I bought new in 1963 with 3 speed gearbox would certainly top 50mph. They weren't classed as mopeds, though. Mopeds had pedals in those days and Raleigh made them. Passed my test on the Honda then bought a 350cc Matchless. Those were the days!0 -

Well I must of been dreaming then. It certainly did do up to 50mph.0 -
Used to have a Yamaha Jog, lovely little thing, nippy and was a really nice ride for a hairdryer lol. I think they may still do the insurance offers, but you have to pay more if you want TPFT instead of just TP. Make sure you go to a decent place before he does the CBT, so he can try on helmets/gloves (essential in the UK - even in the summer your hands will be cold) and look at the scooter itself. Also, make sure you find a good place to do the CBT, some of them are crap, so by going into the shop you should be able to find a decent instructor in case he wants to get his full license later on.
(Mine did 40 as they accidentally took the baffle out when changing the exhaust - it rusted through due to the salt in the air and on the road - I lived near the sea - but it was cheap to repair - I think £80 or so)** Total debt: £6950.82 ± May NSDs 1/10 **** Fat Bum Shrinking: -7/56lbs **
**SPC 2012 #1498 -£152 and 1499 ***
I do it all because I'm scared.

You weren't dreaming. Derestricted they would do over 50mph - about 58mph on the flat (with a bit of a following wind), and 65mph downhill were the best I got. Took a long while to get up to those speeds though.
A breath of wind in the wrong direction, or a slight incline and the speed soon disappears.0 -
Thanks - do you know which brands have the insurance offers?
The Kymco Super 8 50 4-stroke - comes with an insurance offer of just £99 for any age, any area
Bennelli had free insurance offers on that finished at the end of July, might be worth checking with dealers if they can stretch the timing a bit
Free Third Party insurance is available for the Daelim 50cc models such as the Cordi, Bonita and S-five
Keeway also had free TP insurance on 50cc models such as the Hurricane, Matrix and F-act and the Pixel and Flash - I think they ended on July 31 too, but again, may be worth asking if you have a local dealer.0 -
56mph out of my 50cc de-restricted runner. Following a HGV with tacho to verify it was right.
Mine was the later watercooled model though.
Mate had a yamaha jog, paid the same £1800 but only got £600 less than a year later when he sold it.
It was a wreck, Bits dropped off when it was 2 weeks old, Electrical issues when he sold it.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
