Hi
We are flying down under with Emirates and have a 3 hour connection in Dubai- which means we can`t use the free transit restaurant!
My hubbie will not be able to survie that long without a coffee!
Will it be normal Airport rip off prices? Also where is it best to buy my money from? Or I am I best just using my Nationwide debit card to withdraw some money at the airport? No doubt they will have an ATM?
Also have a stop in Melbourne- but remember when I went through Brisbane it was very nice and cheap too!
Also is Dubai airport as mad as I have read about? Ie being bussed in from far off stands and having to give up boarding passes for other cards-only to have to Q for them again? We are travelling with 2 young children and after a night flight- we land about 6.30am am sure they will be fed up already.
Although I have already found the children play area on the website!
Any hints and tips please.
Thanks

Hi,
You definitely won't be ripped off with coffee prices in Dubai airport. Soft drinks (ice cold Coke, Fanta, Sprit etc) was 1 dirham from the machines, but this may have gone up as it is almost 2 years since we were there. It is amongst the best airports in the world, more like a 5* hotel. However, be prepared for many security checks. It is the only airport I have been to where their security checks pick up the titanium plates I have in my leg. Chill out and enjoy the Dubai airport experience, I'm sure you will be impressed. Leaving Dubai airport and landing at Heathrow could quite simply be described as 'chalk and cheese' I'm sure you will be impressed. Sallysaver0 -
I've transitted Dubai many times with 2 young boys by myself.
As sallysaver said drinks aren't expensive, there's costa coffee and starbucks, tea/coffee start at 10 dirhams (£1.50) and juices/water are even cheaper. Foods also not badly priced, think £1 ish for croissant, muffins etc.
Not sure if the children play area is open, i've enquired last two times (July 06 and Oct 05) at info desk and I was told it was closed, so my 2 had a good run up and down the travelators to let off steamas they're not usually heaving with people. Tbh by the time you get through transit and into the departure lounge there won't be much of the 3 hours left as Emirates call you to the gate an hour before departure time.
Mr Sunshine passed through Dubai this morning and Emirates put a personal announcement for him on his ongoing connection as flight from Birmingham was an hour late arriving
Also be prepared to take off boots and belts if they've metal in them at security and you may have fold down pushchair and put that through too even if an umbrella one  .
