Who's responsible for my laptop?

Hi, I'd like some advice on my situation please, here's a quick overview:
My dad bought me a laptop for my 30th birthday which was in February 09. He actually bought the laptop from Argos on 31st December 08 - we have the credit card statement. He paid part cash and part credit card.
In November 09 the charging port went inside the laptop casing and my dad took it back to Argos to be repaired. That seemed to be fine until April this year when the same thing happened. It was out of the 12 month Argos guarantee, but I took it back and they repaired it again, free of charge. Fast forward to now, and the same thing has happened yet again. I took it back to Argos yesterday, who have said that it is out of guarantee and are not sure whether the repair company will charge for another repair. I explained that the initial problem started when the laptop was within its guarantee period, but the assistant said that didn't matter and it would depend how long the repair company guarantee their repairs for.
My question is - am I right in thinking that because the original problem started when the laptop was under guarantee, that it should be repaired free of charge again as it is the same problem. So either the repair is ineffective or there is an inherent fault with the product. I was trying to explain this yesterday but the assistant was standing his ground that the repair may be charged for because the laptop is out of guarantee now.
Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Any guarantee is in addition to your statutory rights.
Have a look at the Sale of Goods Act.
Also, another small point...
It is the purchaser that has the rights, not you. :beer:0 -
The guarantee was in addition to your rights. As the Lap top is over 6 months old, the supplier does not have to offer to replace it, the onous is on the user.

If Argos persist with their stance, escalate and complain to Sara Weller, Argos Managing Director via sending an email to sara.weller@argos.co.uk.
Good luck and hope this helps.0 -
Thanks all for your help, I haven't heard from Argos yet so I'm assuming they've sent it off for repair free of charge again.Sealed Pot Challenge #817 £50 banked0
