Some house insurance help

A friend of mine had her house burgled last week - over £10,000 of stuff was stolen (laptop, jewllery, cash TVs etc) but the insurance providers won't pay up. She rather stupidly forgot to tell them she moved (2 years ago) and was still paying the premiums by DD. The house is very similar in size to last one and the window was smashed to gain access. Has she got any redress to this?

  • non what so ever Im afraid by not telling them of her new address it means she has no cover in place on the new address. Different house, different postcode (potentially) different risk so no insurer will cover that.
  • Can't really see how you expect to get redress for this?

Your insurance policy was for your contents in the house detailed on your insurance document.

If she took out additional cover for items away from the home then perhaps this could be used? At least you might get something back for the jewellery, cash and laptop?

Can't see how she can have failed to have voided the actual home and contents insurance by taking the home and contents to an entirely new address though?

She is going to write to the insurance ombudsman, hoping that she might still get her premiums re-imbursed at least.
