Hi All,
Looking for some advice I am due to go on holiday to Thailand-Phuket next week and I am in need of booking travel insurance....
I have never had to book it before as we usually add it on when paying for holiday. My partner has only just mentioned that he never brought it lol. Its a bit of a mindfied when i do the comparison quotes.... Any ideas on what I am looking for when comparing?
Sorry if this seems a stupid question! x x

I expect if you ask the holiday company / travel agent will be happy to add it. If it is a package holiday? It will not be the cheapest but you might be best taking their insurance and if things go wrong the company rep should be able to assist.
Many do take a chance, but going to Thailand without insurance could be an expensive mistake."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

For future reference, always book your travel insurance as soon as you have booked your holiday.
If tonight you had to cancel you would have lost all your money and your holiday.
You have no idea how many people on here ask about taking out insurance after they have had to cancel.
(obviously you cant) still they ask.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
It is unfortunately a bit of a minefield but the cheapest place really is going to be through a Comparison website. It does depend on how many people are going, if it is just you and your partner or you and your family (only 2 18 years olds or over allowed by the way on a family quote) then basically whatever figure they quote is the price for all of you. It should confirm this at the top of the page though. So if the quote says £55.60, this means it will cost £55.0 for all of you to be insured for that period of time. Once you are happy with the quote, you simply book it then wait for the email confirming you are insured and this email should also have your policy with it (as an attachment). Obviously make sure you print out a couple of copies for your own piece of mind just in case you need to contact them for anything at all while in Thailand. You are insured exactly the same as if your travel agent attached it to your holiday and charged you extortionate amounts at the same time for it. You may find there may be slight differences i.e your baggage may be covered for a different amount to your policy through the travel agents but every Travel Agent uses different companies anyway for Insurance so you would be covered differently each time unless you booked with the same Travel Agents each time. Also double check that baggage cover and cancellation are covered as part of the policy because a lot of the time you have to tick a box to add baggage cover. Oh yes and remember you only want Single Trip cover if you're not likely to be going on holiday again in the next 12 months. If you make sure you double check the information (names spelt correctly, covered for baggage and cancellation, and the dates are correct you can't go wrong.
Good Luck hope you manage to sort it out OK and have a lovely trip to Thailand. I am oh so jealous!! :cool:0 -
Also bear in mind that if you go abroad more than 2-3 times a year it could work out cheaper to get an annual policy.0

I found travel insurance web one of the best ones especially for pre existing medical conditions0

I'd definitely echo McKneff...this board is littered with people who face losing lots of money as they hadn't taken out insurance when they booked!
Make sure you know what you're going to be doing on holiday....policies usually charge extra for 'dangerous activities' and that doesn't have to be base jumping or skydiving! On some policies something like scuba, rafting etc may fall into one of their sports categories. Usually they list actvities on an A or B list, and then charge a small premium for it. If you ignore that but then need to make a claim from having done something like that your policy will be considered invalid.
Annual policies work out cheaper if you're doing more trips in a year, but if you generally stick to Europe it may be cheaper to get single insurance for this holiday and then a European annual policy when you book your next one as some companies are cheaper for European travel.0
