Jane Normal - poor clothing quality?

My teenage daughter has a love of Jane Norman clothes but has recently started to get issues with quality. Two tops 'bled' their colour all over her underclothes and bag. She thought 'Perhaps I should have washed it before wearing?' but the wash care label contained no such instructions and even after a wash the colour still continues to bleed. Jane Norman said "We will refund you, but not pay for the damage to your other clothes/bag"

Not put off by this she just bought a £40 (!!! eek !!!) cardigan, wore it for a couple of hours, washed it, took it out of the washing machine to find it full of holes. Jane Norman said "It's your washing machine!". Despite there being no damage to anything else, I called in my brother (a senior engineer for Hotpoint) who gave the machine a clean bill of health and said it was 'bull'. He came up with "It looks like a button or zip could have damaged the fabric, but the wash care label does NOT say 'wash on its own'".

We buy clothes from all over. Primark, Asda, Marks, Tesco and never get any issues so I'm inclined to think that Jane Normal is of 'pants' quality. Does anyone else here have experience with poor quality from Jane Norman?

  • They are renowned for poor quality however I do like a lot of their stuff.
Did you speak to the store manager?

Recently I had a bag where the zip fell off just after I got it and a button fell of a jacket, also just recently bought and I took them back and got them replaced no problem.

They are indeed VERY poor quality given the price they charge! I only ever buy items in the sale as I now expect them to fall to bits, and definitely don't buy anything that looks vaguely delicate!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

I have never bought any of their clothes because I have heard too many times from other people that it's poor quality. It's just not worth it when they charge so much!
  • I've had a mixed experience. I bought a jumper last year and was so impressed with how it wore and how easily it washed that I bought two more in different colours. Both of those got hole in the seams within just a couple of wears. Probably should have taken them back but I just mended them.

I do think their quality is not that good, but a lot their clothes are so pretty and if you can get them in the sale then they do have good discounts. I assume a lot their things are made to be worn for one season only, which isn't much comfort if you really like something and it falls apart.
