    Just a comment on your terminology, which I hope may be helpful...
    I think the thing you call the "hard drive" is the computer, or "Personal Computer" (PC).
    The hard drive is a component within the computer.
    Some also call the computer the CPU, but again that is a component inside it.
    Calling the computer the "hard drive" is akin to calling a car the "fuel tank".
    :)

    BTW, I would say that dust is not going to be the problem; if I were you I would buy an external USB hard disk and copy your data to it.

    Managed to convinced DH that maybe we should get a laptop sooner rather than later so think thinking on this one -
