Just Beat Down My Insurance...

I must be mad. I just pay up the premium without question for years. Then at work people were discussing their insurances and they all thought I was paying a lot £230ish a year for contents only in a 2 bed flat.
Some of the people at work were paying that for Buildings and Contents.
This morning I rang the insurance to find out why.
My cover was made up of:
Basic Insurance £40,000 cover £119.35
Accidental Damage & Personal Posessions £64.81
Home Rescue Plan £22.86
Insurance Premium Tax £10.35
Charge to Pay Monthly £17.38
I did not know about all these costs.
When I quizzed them I was told that I am covered in case I drop wine on the carpet (I don't drink), If I kick paint over when decorating (I am very careful). The TV, (I don't have one though), DVD player (don't have one) Computer (Have One) is covered as standard without this additionally priced extension.
The Home Rescue covered me in case my boiler broke down to the cost of £250 or if I had a vermin infestation or a burst pipe. I have never seen a rat or a mouse in my 4th floor (top floor) flat and I have an insurance with Bosch for the service and repair of the boiler. If I have a wasps nest then the managment company pay for that.
I was shocked I was paying £17.38 to pay monthly instead of upfront.
The kind operator agreed that I was being charged for some unecessary things and increased my cover from £40,000 to £60,000, kept the excess at £50, removed the extensions I did not need and by paying up front the premium is:
£103.75 for a year.
Is this good???

I don't know about "good" but it's only half as bad as it was!42 years of experience in the insurance industry.
And nothing the industry tries do to us surprises me any more!0
