    Thanks Donnie,
Just bought it so there's only one left for anyone looking for a good deal!
I really appreciate all your advice. It has been invaluable to me and saved me a small fortune. If I'd gone into a large store I know I would have been talked into spending far more on something that had loads of spec' that I just don't need.
I did google this and found ones to be available for approx £400 with varying memory/storage but this model, as you say, has enough for my use.
Also thanks for the student website for software. I've never heard of it before and was really surprised at the prices. Now I know where to go first for software.........and if that vista is pants for my use......windows 7! You'll know if that happens as I'm sure to have to post for advice!!
If ever you need any advice on handling troublesome teenagers, recipe ideas or cleaning tips I may be able to help you one day!!

There is no substitute for hands on usage. So give it a good testing. Keep it well ventilated. Play video discs. Leave it on throughout the night. Just intensive use. To check for overheating or excessive noise. Anything that might make the machine uncomfortable in use. Check the quality of the build etc
If not happy, drop them a line within seven days of delivery to arrange a Return.
Once you are sure that you wish to keep it then you can go for the warranty. But there is no rush, as you have up to a year to register it as far as I know.
    Hope it's a good one.

Cleaning? Fancy coming around to help my with my house refurbishment? :D

PS: You were just in time. None left.

With regard to the post from 'Closed', my 'dead' laptop will be destroyed once I am certain it has no chance of a second life. Having used it for banking etc I feel it's too risky to do anything else.
  • jac29.... take out the old hard drive and stick it on EBay as spares or repair......
Something like that is ALWAYS useful to someone.

I agree, remove the hard drive and recycle it. All of your sensitive info is on your hard drive, nowhere else.

Buy a HDD Caddy for £3.40. Pop your hard drive in there(very easy) and you will have portable storage. The same would cost you at least £30 in a shop.

Don't throw these things away. Allow someone to reuse them.

    Hi Guys,
Dead is..........wont turn on as wont charge up/work with mains lead. Had the lead tested twice and told it is working fine so def' the laptop.
I am totally into recycling/reusing as much as poss in life but as i had personal stuff stored on the desktop-photos/poetry/letters etc I don't want anyone 'peeping into my life'. If this will disappear when I remove the hard drive I will def ' ebay it. Cash is cash after all. Only thing is how do you take out the hard drive? ....:p I can already hear the howls of laughter but it's simple when you know how isn't it?!? :p
If I can remove the hard drive I will be sure to reuse as Donnie described. That will be really useful to me. Thanks for that info'.
By the way, new desktop working great, having to negotiate for time slots to get on it as the kids love it. Bought some Creative speakers which have awesome sound and the boys are busy watching 'unsuitable episodes of mongrels and southpark' on it
Little monkeys. Also picked up a couple of pc games from Cex and it's great for those too. Overall a real winner.

So, refer to post #16 for the caddy.

You will be able to complete the job easily and quickly and you'll have a 30 to 60GB portable hard drive for the princely sum of £3.40. As well as being able to retrieve any important data left on the drive. Once done, you can format it and use it as storage.
