Ford 12 year anti perforation warranty tip

My Mark 3 2003 mondeo has developed a small amount of rust under a rear passenger door. The car has a 12 year anti perforation warranty however my car cannot be repaired under this warranty even though it has been dealer serviced since new.

This is because when getting it serviced as I have done every year religiously - I did not SPECIFICALLY ask them to do a vehicle bodywork check. This is apparently not part of the service but something you have to request and pay extra for!

Anyway I'm not whining about it - the car is 7 years old and as it is a second car we may not keep it for a lot longer anyway but I'm posting this as a heads up for anyone who might've just bought a new Ford in the last few months.

If you don't specifically request this check (and pay for it) your 12 year anti-perforation warranty is worth zilch, zero, nada, nothing.

It's probably been painted at some point in its life anyway.

I talked to the dealership and Ford customer assistance this morning before I posted the thread.

I'm not particularly worried about it - just wanted to provide a heads up for others. Might help someone else that's what MSE is all about. Not sure I'd ever have another Ford though based on my experience over this.

Rust on Mondeo car doors made between about 2001 and 2004 is a known issue. Something to do with some sealant not being applied properly (don't ask me where, I'm female) As such, I think Ford should be putting it right regardless of whether the dealership stamped the booklet or not.

So no more Fords for me.
