Hi,
I have been on here a few times looking for a mattress, and although a lot of people seem to be going the pocket latex /memory foam route, I decided I would quite like to get a full latex mattress, after trying the dunlopillo in Fenwicks they seemed like heaven but the cost was crazy.
I then discovered a site called Yanis mattresses, they sell latex and there does not seem to be much choice out there when it comes to full latex so I decided to take the plunge.
I have purchased a med-firm coolmax premium latex double for £479, free delivery 2 free latex pillows. Great deal, i have a 7 day period to decide if i am keeping the mattress.
So it was ordered Thursday, delivered on Friday and started using it Saturday, it is well protected and have been very careful, seemed very comfy lying back on it but the first night i tossed and turned a lot finding it a tad firm for me i think. I woke up with pain from neck down to middle of my back, same the 2nd night.
Don't get me wrong it's a lovely mattress, very good quality. Should I be trying to persevere with it? Will it soften a bit or should I send it back asap and not wait the 7 days I am allowed?
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Latex doesn't really soften I'm afraid. Memory foam softens, as do springs, but a latex only mattress won't. So you might as well send it back now.
Latex with pocket springs will give better support than latex only.
There have been quite a few people on MSE who said that they owned old Dunlopillo mattresses, but then replaced them with a more recent one, and the quality isn't the same any more. This seems to fit in with the time when they were taken over by the Hilding Anders group. This figures because they seem to have lowered the quality of most of the other brands in their group also.
From what I have seen of Yanis, they love gimmicks. They make mattresses that appear to be a very impressive spec, but they are actually low quality, and full of gimmicks. In fact if you knew how much good quality natural Talalay latex costs, you would know that you couldn't make a good quality one for they prices they sell at.0 -
ok thanks for the advice gonna have to manage with it for one more night til i can get a hand repackaging it all. I think it is good quality mattress its just too firm for me and i cant see any other softer options on that site. I would be happy to pay more for a full latex one i just cannot find any other ones to look at apart from dunlopillo.0

Yanis matresses are made of dunlop, not of talalay. This type of latex is considerably cheaper to manufacture. Their price reflects true production cost, not low quality.
By the way, dunlop latex is NOT inferior to talalay. It also comes in different firmness but generally feels firmer compared to talalay. It does provide better support though.
AllyBeee,
you can try and get a soft latex mattress topper. This is how people make their latex mattresses in America: buy good quality dunlop mattress base and then choose softer talalay to go on top. Different thickness of talalay layer -> different softness of your mattress. You can also make your mattress softer if you put it on a slatted base, not solid one.
By the way, I've purchased a 100% latex dunlopillo mattress recently, which is usually very very expensive but I got an ex-display model for a very good price. So far very happy with it0 -
thanks for your reply anna
Yes i think it is good quality but as you say too hard, they have been very fair and encouraged me to try it til the end of the period and then call and they will give a full refund minus return postage.
I thought about a topper but i have a memory foam topper currently and i get fed up of it moving about and getting lumps in it rather than lying smooth on the mattress. i would love a dunlopillo to be honest but i don''t have the foggiest where to get one cheaper only seen them in fenwicks newcastle.
The lady in fenwicks said something about they ship theirs from the states as they are still made the same way and not the inferior way in europe. i dunno who to believe lol.
oh and yes it is a slatted sprung base, which dunlopillo mattress did you get and can i ask where from?0 -
I have received this response "Further to your email bellow I would like to give you some expert advise about latex mattresses.
Natural Latex comes from the sap of the rubber tree and then is transformed into natural latex foam that is used in mattresses.
Latex is naturally anti allergenic, anti dustmite and is beneficial for people with respiratory problems.
Latex is also beneficial for people with back and joint problems as it responds instantly to every your movement keeping your back and spine always in the correct position when you sleep.
Our Coolmax Premium Latex Mattress features the unique 7 comfort zone system, which means that every body part receives the right amount support.
The mattress is designed with zones with different hardness in the neck, shoulder, back lower back, hips, knees and ankles areas.
Latex mattresses conform to your body's contours relieving pressure points and do not cause aches. Latex mattresses have more springy and bouncy feel, the latex takes the shape of your body every time you move or turn.
Latex is very durable, it will not sag or dip after long lasting deformation. Our latex mattresses come with extended 15 years warrantee.
Every new mattress feels different and your body will need some time to get used and adjust to it before you start experiencing this unique sleep system.
You can try the mattress till the end of the cooling off period of 7 working days after the delivery date which is next Tuesday 17th August.
I am sure if you sleep on the mattress for the next seven days yo will change your mind and would love your new mattress.
The bed base is also important. Do not place the mattress on the floor- it will definetelly feel firmer if placed on a firm surface. The mattress could be used with any bed base, but preferably on a sprung slatted base as this type of base will enhance the mattress performance.
I encourage you to sleep on the mattress till the end of the cooling off period. Dont just lie on it in order to try it out. Sleep on it tonight, tomorrow night, the night after that as well..... The longer you use the mattress the better you will start experiencing its benefits. There will be less tossing and turning you will wake up relaxed and refreshed the neck and back pain will be gone.
This is not just a "sale pitch" as you might think, we are confident our latex mattresses are very comfortable and they really do help people sleep better. We really want you experience the full benefits of this fantastic mattress.
Please sleep on it for the next few days, if still not sure give us a call on the 17th August and we will arrange the refund."
Hmm not sure how much of this is pitch and whether they are trying to reduce the return window. Thinking i may give it til friday then ring them that way its way before the date of return expires. If they have put the 17th august in an email surely they have to honour that? Does that seem sensible?0 -
I've got an ex-display Nouveau mattress from their 2009 collection. I'd say, it's mid of the range, not the cheapest, not most expensive one. I purchased it from a small local bed shop that happened to be a dunlopillo stockist. I paid £700 for a super king size mattress (6' wide) + 2 dunlopillo pillows. I think it's a great deal, and I'm sure it will last for much longer than any sprung model. I can try to find dunlopillo stockists near you on their website - this is how I found mine. And then talk to the shop owner, maybe they'll do you a good deal. Good luck!0

that would be great anna thank you, that is a very good deal!0

I'm interested in combination latex and reflex foam mattresses. I'm trying out a latex topped pocket sprung mattress at the moment and it gives amazing support and my lower back is already feeling better but I do get some disturbance from my partner. Previously I've had a futon which is foam topped with synthetic fibres. It was too firm and the fibres just compressed rather than moulding like latex, but we did have no disturbance.
I've found one by Kozeesleep called the Cloud Nine, has anyone on here had experience with it?0 -
Further update to my mattress return saga, yanis have now asked if i would like a custom made softer latex mattress exchanged for my other one which was too hard, free of charge theyl pick up this one and bring the other one once its ready if i am still not happy they will exchange again or refund full money. Seems very fair to me so i have agreed to the custom made mattress be here in 2 weeks. Just call me goldilocks
ill let you know after that whether its suitable or im back to looking for latex mattresses yet again ( really hope not)
