BRANSTON PICKLE (Very Cheap) also Beans, Spaghetti and Sauce/Ketchup

Sainsburys have a "Branston" promotion on at the minute

Not only the pickle but also their "new" baked beans and I think also the sauces - might be others - it was the pickle that caught my attention.

Anyway all the Branston products were on an aisle end and had what appeared to be "conflicting" promotion labels.

There was "Buy 2 for £2" and also "Buy 2 and save £1.56"

It took a while before I realised that BOTH offers were true but that the "for £2" bit was actually ONLY "TOTALLY TRUE" when applied to the Baked Beans!

The beans are £1.78 for a 4 can multipack - so 2 cost £3.56
less £1.56 equals £2 - FINE !

However it appears you can "mix and match" ANY 2 products from the promotion and it is only the Beans that cost £1.78, ALL the others are CHEAPER !

Because Sainsbury's computer system is NOT as clever as it should be, it always triggers the £1.56 discount when you buy 2 products assuming that you may have bought the Baked Beans and it must do this to make them "2 for £2"

SO - The PICKLE!!

720g Jar - Original or "Small Chunks" - Cost £1.38

Buy 2 = £2.76 (if the computer was programmed right - less 76p = £2)
However it isn't!
SO less the £1.56 = £1.20

That makes a BIG 720g Jar just 60 pence !!!

FILL YER BOOTS !

Well (probably preferably) Fill your SANDWICHES !

Just to add - if the Branston Brown Sauce and/or Tomato Ketchup is part of the offer (I think it is) and it is the price I think it is, namely £1.18 for the 460 gram Squeezy bottles, then 2 of these would be JUST 40 pence each ( £1.18 x 2 = £2.36 less £1.56 = £0.80 )

I checked today - the sauces are "buy 2 for £2" BUT NOT associated with the others that are a "mix & match" with the £1.56 off bit, so "sadly" they do work out at £1 each.

What is included in the "mix & match" that I've not mentioned is SPAGHETTI at £1.64 for 4 tins.
    These would work out at 2 x £1.64 = £3.28 less £1.56 = £1.72 for 8 tins !!

  • I got the pickle for 60p - thanks for this one, the shelf tag said "save £1.56" and that's what was deducted, so, 60p for a £1.38 jar. I bought 6!!!
  • Oh, I didn't see the bit you added about the sauce/ketchup! Now I'll have to go back and check!

If they taste anything like the Branston Spaghetti then they need a bogof promotion. The kids described them as "disgusting." I tried them and had to agree. How they hope to sell them as an alternative to the Heinze is beyond me.

NEver tried the spaghetti, but probably won't now! The Baked Beans are really nice, and branston pickle - well, long tried and tested! Thanks for the tip off about the spaghetti though.
  • I like the beans better than Heinz not tried the Spaghetti though.

Didnt pick up the low salt/sugar ones did you? I bought some to try it but ended up throwing them away as they didnt have any taste of tomato, but normal range is much nicer.

I noticed the Branston spaghetti in Morrisons yesterday.
The offer there for the Spaghetti is "Buy 2 tins for 50p"

It did say on the tins "NEW IMPROVED RECIPE" with "10% extra Tomatoes"

So maybe it might be worth trying them again at the right price
