How much are you budgeting for your...

...photographer?

We don't have any budget for a photographer, and it's the only thing I'm thinking over.

Some people have had good experiences with friends and family taking pics, overs have felt they've really missed out on decent shots.

So I'm wondering how much (brides on a strict budget) people are spending, and how many hours their photographer will be with them. And what products they will receive.

I'm thinking we would only want a photographer for 2 hours or so and to have the images on a disc. (don't really need prints0.

Any feedback really appreciated, as I haven't decided what to do yet.

Oh and we do have a university with photography dept. here, in case trying out an amateur might be an idea (I know a I did a short course with them years ago)!

I tried to get quotes for photographers to just come and do a couple of hours and every single one refused as it wasn't worth their while :(

As it stands we have my bil's brother coming to do it, he is a working amateur who is assisting a photographer doing weddings at the moment but will be doing ours on his own.

We haven't actually met to discuss things yet so no idea how long he will come for or if he wants to charge us but we have a maximum budget of £200 and if he wants more than that then we won't be having a photographer and will be relying on the guest photos to be good.

What area are you in? I found a great photographer through a friend, whose coming all day for £250 (photos of us getting ready and evening shots) and then doing all the photos and photobooks after at cost ie...£68 for a huge photobook. He takes up to 500 photos and more! We did like the style better of other photographers, but we couldnt jutify £1500 on a starter package and 2 hours work!

i budgeted £500, and have got one for that price.
she is coming while i am getting ready and staying until first dance (getting married at 4, and first dance will be about 8 maybe)
also got an engagement shoot, 250 images on cd, and album with pictures in.
i was happy with the price- and her, which is important. its important to get on with them as they will be spending a lot of time with you

    Thanks, I'm in Portsmouth. :)

I def. don't want someone there all day, and def. no getting ready shots (seems weird to me, but then I'm not having any bridesmaids or a big dress or anything)!

It's a civil ceremony, then onto the wedding breakfast. Not really worried about any extra shots after this i.e at the reception.

I think photo books etc, are great and all, but I think it would just sit in a cupboard ad never really get looked atin our house. :o

Our photographer is £1100. We are getting photos on CD, a large album, 2 parent books, and a photo booth for the evening for that. He will come in the morning and go to me and the OH, and still until late.
The photography is important to me so I guess I gave it a big budge (1/10th of total cost of wedding!) but it depends on your priorities. I don't think there is a typical price really

i would have to say that i disagree with this statement- photos are my 'priority', but i only had £500 for them, and i found someone, and there are plenty that do it for this price and under. my whole wedding will cost under £4grand, and i am not missing out on anything, and i am having everything i want.
