The Alternative Guide to Postgraduate Funding

The purpose of this guide is to explore the alternatives available through the voluntary sector - i.e. from charities, trusts, foundations and professional bodies - which will consider funding postgraduate students’ fees, maintenance, research, travel, and conference expenses. There are thousands of bodies out there that distribute millions of pounds in grants to graduates every year. However, very few students apply to them or even know they exist.

If you have received a copy of the guide can you please let others know whether you think it's useful. Might encourage others who are worried that I'm a spambot to request a copy (I'm most definitely not a spambot!). Could help quite a few people!
I don't usually like to 'request' thanks, but again - might encourage others to get in touch with me for help.0 -
Just received my copy from ts: same day I asked for it! Thanks a lot, just a quick glance through has already thrown up some interesting options I can look into :-)0

Yeah, re. the Alternative Guide to Postgraduate Funding by GradFunding:
I've been looking into postgraduate funding for a PhD in Geography- next year rather than this one coming.
I'd never considered writing to charity for postgraduate funding before. Some of the funding bodies it lists sound pretty obscure to me. Brewers and Distilltillers benevolent foundation? Wow.
I think a lot of this is old money locked up in trust funds etc. Maybe it's quite easy to get...easier than an AHRC grant, anyway.
I think the Guide looks pretty good- whether it works or not is another matter, but fingers crossed!0 -
Thank you Tigersilly, this is a very useful resource for all students.0

I'm going to be an undergraduate student come just under a months time, and it would be super useful because most of the conventional grants are only available on a means tested basis - not very fair when you've got one breadwinner (albeit fortunate) in a house of 6
So yes please Tigersilly!0
