eharmony automatic subscription renewal

I joined the dating agency eharmony last August and found that I didn't really like internet dating and I hardly used the site. I forgot about it until recently and I wrongly assumed my initial subscription payment for a year would either run out or I would receive a notification of some kind asking me if I wanted to renew.
Of course I didn't and instead I received an email notifying me that a payment of $34 had been automatically put onto my credit card and a month's renewal of my subscription had taken place. 24 hours before my subscription ran out.
I emailed them explaining that I did not want to renew but they will not refund me. Is there anything I can do?

What did the T&Cs say about cancellation? If you missed the cut-off then chances are there is nothing you can do.Thinking critically since 1996....0 -
The reply from eharmony was that 'subscriptions are set to renew automatically to ensure continuous communication with your matches as well as to provide you with our discounted renewal rates. It was also clarified during the subscription purchase process that this charge can be processed 24 hours in advance of the account expiration'. Also they said that account renewal information is clearly notified in the eharmony inbox.
However I had not been on the site to pick up any emails. I explained that it would be more reasonable for them to notify customers via their opening email account that their subscription was due for renewal.
Since they refused to refund I explained that I would be contacting trading standards and they have now offered me a partial refund of GBP17.50.0 -
Thats good to hear but i hope you understand this is entirely legal and very common practice so trading standards would have no interest as it is really your fault for not reading the essay that is their terms and conditions.Back by no demand whatsoever.0
