Apple failed credit check - please advise.
Hi all, I went to the Apple store to purchase a MacBook Pro - total cost was £1330.15 - I applied for the financing package over 3 years at £45 a month - an amount I can comfortably afford. I was rejected for this and cannot understand why. Here's my back story.
28 year old professional working in the finance sector in Manchester on £16k/year.
Outgoings for rent and bills are £315/month plus £35/month mobile phone contract. I pay my father under £100/month for an old loan but this is in his name and not mine. I have 1 credit card with a small balance on it that will be paid off by the end of this month when I next get paid.
I have had 4/5 credit cards since I was 18, a few overdrafts over the years and a princes trust loan for £3k, I am on my 6th mobile phone contract - I have never missed a payment on anything in my life and consider myself to be in the best financial position I have been in since I was 18. In fact take away my loan payment to my father which isn't even in my name, my outgoings are lower than they have ever been while my wage is as high as it's ever been.
Lived with parents or away at university until 4 years ago when I moved to Manchester.
3 years in one address where I wasn't registered to vote.
Currently 1 year in my new address where I am registered to vote.
People around me are suggesting my credit rating is low because of the addresses I have lived at while renting, perhaps people that have lived there ran up huge debt and it's affecting me? (I have seen many repo letters since moving into these places for old tenants but never assumed they could affect me)
Again I have never missed a payment and have had credit checks in the past and they have been fine, this is the first time I've been rejected for something and it seems a low amount. I am worried that if I can't get this then my credit rating must be down the toilet, how could I ever get a car or a house?
Any advice why this has happened would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Michael

its done by barclays, do you have any accounts with them? The 3 years not on the electroll wouldnt be one of the good reasons to help though.0

I had a Barclays credit card when I was 18 for a few years, never spent much and never missed a payment, never had a current account with them.
"The 3 years not on the electroll wouldnt be one of the good reasons to help though." Do you mean it would be a good reason to stop me or it wouldn't make a difference?
Thanks for the reply mate.Debt free!0 -
That does seem a bit of a mystery. Best check both your equifax and experian credit reports to make sure nothing dodgy is on them.0

I looked at this before with Equifax 2 years ago and it was fine. The only problem I had was the trials attempting to cancel my order after my 30 day free trial. A little reluctant to sign up again after that hassle.
My credit info should be available completely free without having to put card details inDebt free!0 -
do you currently have a cc you could use to but the pc?0

It's all a lot easier now. Both equifax and experian offer instant access to your statutory report for £2 online - no sign up and nothing to cancel.0 -

Good stuff, ok I got my Equifax report and ordered my Experian report (that takes up to 4 days apparently). Looking through my Equifax report the thing that stands out is how thorough it is, it has absolutely everything I've ever done on there!
Lots of green O's and S's - as I knew, nothing in red at all, the only thing in those boxes are two Q's on my phone bill, these were around the time I changed my contract but I know for a fact I never missed a payment so don't fully understand what they are there for. All Credit Cards and bank accounts or Loans look great, all fully settled and no issues there.
The address I was at previously says unconfirmed and not registered to vote, this is what I suspect to be my biggest problem as all the other sections are completely blank - nothing in court or anything else like that. The other thing is I have 3 accounts currently (2 current accounts and 1 credit card) but over the last 10 years I have had 18 previous accounts mostly made up of credit cards (switching for zero balance transfers), a loan (all payments met and cleared) and several bank accounts (switched for free £100 offers).
Is this all bad? It seems perfectly fine and given I've had phone contracts, loans, credit cards, and overdrafts all paid up and on time should suggest I am a very responsible borrower right?
I'm confused, it doesn't actually say if I have a good or bad credit ratingDebt free!0 -
