According to council tenancy rules a succession only happens once. At the moment the tenancy is signed by my partner and me, if either one dies then tenancy would go to the surviving partner (solely) – this would account as one succession.

After that, my two children would become homeless! At the moment they are very young 5 and 1, and I worry when they are older, they would be without a home!!!

Is there any chance for me to make sure they can stay after me and my partner dies? (legal, experience of others, etc)

    Many thanks in advance,

Some councils do offer succession rights to children, but not all of them, and I think this is generally being stopped anyway.

Generally, if your children were both young and you both died, then they would obviously have to live with other adults anyway, but if they were adults when you died, whether they could take over the tenacy would depend on their circumstances at the time although, generally, councils would expect them to move. If they had any sort of priority (disability, children etc.,), then the council may rehouse them.

The only way you could really guarantee your children could remain in the family home would be to exercise your right to buy, if it exists.

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)

Who is talking about this on this thread Fourcandles? Stop mixing the threads and take that bloomin' chip off of you shoulder.what bloomin chip??

:eek::eek: Who are you to say work harder? There are some jobs where the ceiling is roughly £17k. How can you make the assumption that OP isn't working his/her tail off for that £17k?she is saying she has to pay for everything out of her low wage my answer change jobs earn more.

I suspect that the new government has stopped tax credits to those earning over £40k, because that's a high enough wage to start making your own way in the world ;)
true but when you got past the 40k it covered just about a quarter of the council tax.
OP - I really wouldn't worry about what will happen to your children if both of you die, it probably won't happen. Anyway, if they are minors they will go to a relations to live and be cared for and if they are older than 18 they will probably be left home by then anyway! I think it is a wind up dear ???

Life's too short to worry about the "what ifs", just enjoy your family and be grateful that today you're all happy and healthy :)

what chip??? I am happy as larry,
OP said she had to pay everything out of her small pay 17k all I said was go and earn more what has a ceiling got to do with anything if you can just cover the essentials it clearly is not enough, as for the tax credit brilliant idea as clearly we all claimed it which is why it was stopped it was legal and above board ,as for the children I think the whole post is a sarcastic wind up do you think?
