JUst a few comments above. How many people is your SOA for?
    :p
  • How many of you are there?

What stands out most is the internet £80!!! and water £170!!!

Also, electricity and gas seem high - does this include debt repayment to these companies? If not, check that you're not in credit with these companies.

Are you paying your Council T over 10 months? - if yes, then see if you can pay over 12 months - you hare recieving benifits so shouldn't be a problem.

It looks like you're paying for an over-draft facility you're not using (as thats not included in youe debt anywhere) - if this is the case cancel it as it's costing you £25/month, also consider changing your bank account (or down grading it) you are paying £5/month

Food shopping can perhapse be lowered if you visit the old-style board for hints and tips, but this will depend on how many people you are having to feed on this budget (batch cook, meal plan, take packed lunches). Seems high given you also have an additional £87 on drinks per month (this is very high, and you spend another £40 drinking out every month).

Also, eating out is a luxury that can be cut out until your budget and spending is under control.

Ther's quite a lot of room for savings in your current budget and you should be able to get your outgoing down to be in line with income, it currently looks like you are getting £600 further into debt every month.

Hi, you haven't said how many people this covers. Am guessing 1/2 adults and 1 child?
Your water rates are huge, think you may have put the wrong amount in there?

For savings - cut out drinks for the home you really can't afford them, also meals at work and newspapers/magazines (read what you can online). You can also cut out coffee/sandwiches/snacks (but is this seperate to meals at work?) If you can cut out school meals, go for it. The taxi/bus/train amount is also very high but as a Londoner I know these can be huge, if there are taxi fees in there cut them out and get the bus but if these are public transport costs for the family I guess you're kind of stuck there. And obviously the cigarettes, but that's more about being able to quit smoking, the cost is what it is.

You seem to have a lot of luxuries in there (taxi, drinks, cigs) so am not sure if you will find these suggestions to your liking but really it's the only way to get ahead with money. To miss out on the luxuries and do things the long/hard way.... on the plus side it leaves you less time to think about what you're missing :)

You aren't too far off and there's definately room for cuts. Good luck with it, I'm sure others with better suggestions will be along soon

Thanks for the tips, some of these allowances are for my partner, who still has his head well and truly buried in the sand!
I have tried getting him to do these things( ie no drinking at home, packed lunches etc), but to no avail so far.
Hopefully if he looks at these suggestions he might just face reality!

This still seems high. If you must stay with Virgin, try calling saying you want to cancel, they will soon find you a better deal to entice you to stay.

I have a friend who does this with Sky every time his latest deal runs out-he hasn't paid full price for about 4 years!!

Thanks for the tips. We don't run a car so have to bus everywhere so buy weekly tickets each ( 3of us have to pay)
Meals at work includes coffees etc
Having to get used to preparing meals for all of us, we all work/eat at different times but just a case of plannng ahead i guess.
Thanks for the help, was hoping by posting the budget online it will give us both the incentive we need to really cut back.

I have just read the boards on this page. Seems like everyone else is getting a better deal.
I am hopeless at stuff like that but i think i will give it a go tomorrow.:)
  • Agree with Sofababe - call Virgin and say you want to cancel because you've seen an offer elsewhere and they should make you an offer of a reduction in cost, to keep you with them as a customer.

How did you manage to get CCCS to agree to the highest Virgin package in your spending plan?? Are you in a contract period with them?
