My daughter has just got her first car a V reg 1.2 Corsa which has done just over 70,000 miles. From reading various posts on here it looks as if the cam belt should be replaced. Could anyone give me a rough idea of what a reasonable price would be for a garage to charge to replace that and the water pump.

£8 for the cambelt, another £50/60 for the pulleys and stuff, £25 for the pump, another 3 hours labour at max, say £35/hr at a proper garage. I'll let you do the sums.
Just to add at those figures the garage is in pocket and you are not being ripped off/rogerred. Sorry. ;)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

£35/hr? Where is this garage? I'm in East Yorks and pretty much everyone including small garages are now £10+ per hour above that, dealerships nearly double.0 -
Thanks for that I feel much more confident ringing around knowing I have a ball park figure of around £200.0

If it's the 8 valve you won't need pulleys, just the belt say £10, water pump £12-15 (Quinton Hazell from any decent parts supplier) and about 1.5 to 2 hours labour. If I were you I'd ring around a few well known decent local garages for a quote.0

if it is the 12nz engine then it will be belt driven cost wise for belt, water pump and labour i would estimate £120-150.
but i think it could be the x12xe engine that is a 16 valve chain driven lump, cannot remember exactly when they started to fit that engine but it was around that sort of year when corsa c had mid life facelift.
what does top of engine look like is it a black plastic rocker cover with vauxhall wrote on it or is it an aluminium (silver) cam cover with ecotec wrote on it,better still does it give engine code on either security pass or in service book?0 -

Then you are being stung, stealerships ?, yes agreed, twice that. Me, I'm North Derbs, may be even more frugal than the Yorkies, feel free to contact me for details of several proper places that charge fair rates.
Or maybe you are like me and feel that £10/hr is being ripped orf?I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Right have looked under the bonnet and it's a 16v ecotec engine. The engine no is 19H63851 if this helps?0

Your engine has a chain so no need to worry about the cambelt . Just make sure the chain isn't ratteling and that you keep the oil supply fresh.0

ecotec is chain driven, that is engine number have you got the engine code?
it should be x12xe and will be printed on security pass and should be wrote in service book.
not essential now as ecotec will be chain so long as it is a 1.2 litre but just to make doubley sure.0
