I opened up a Natwest Advantage gold account with my wife, got the letter confirming the account number and then gave the bank details to Child Benefit for the weekly payment. Few days later got a letter from the dreaded AVU saying thanks but no thanks and the account was to be closed, when through to nearest branch and withdrew all the money and the account was closed a day later, phoned child benefit and explained and changed the bank details back to my other bank but of course they had already sent the payment to NatWest.
They said the payment would be returned to them and they would just forward it to my other bank, but the payment would have been due last Tuesday and it has not arrived in my other bank yet, is this normal or should I contact Natwest as would they just hold onto the payment until I contact them ?.
Many Thanks.
P.s The Natwest account was showing as closed on the Thursday the Child benefit payment would have credited it the following Tuesday.

It was opended and cheque books and cards arrived, Pin numbers then letter saying it was to be closed in 14 days and to make other banking arrangements also told not to contact them for the reason. I went into a local branch and withdrew all the funds and the staff member advised that she had seen a few of these letters but now that the funds are withdrawn the account would be closed, I then got a statement in which said account closed. The account was closed a good 5 days before the payment would have gone in.
If Natwest had got the payment would they not contact me ?.0 -

The best thing to do is to raise it as a query with the payee's bank. They should be able to track what has happened with the money as it could be sat in the clearing system. Or you could contact BACS directly.Best Regards

Hi, I would rather leave that as a last resort as the Payees bank is the Bank of England and the Payess is HMRC.0 -
If the account was closed the payment should have bounced back to the sender.
If not the funds will be in a suspense account somewhere.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -
