Aluminium foil heating problems in oven - am I going mad?

Thanks, Jennifer. Your Miele sounds really good, particularly for its age!

It's not that I'm not used to fan ovens (I've had 3 over the last 20 years or so), but the same recipes using the same containers and foil in this particular fan oven just don't seem to work - certainly not at the stated temperatures in the recipes I've always used.

I did actually buy a probe thermometer recently (for ice cream making!) which is suitable for checking meat temperature. I'll definitely use that when I try and roast a joint for the first time in my new oven. I think it's going to be a case of trial and error and remember that it does sometimes take time to get used to new ovens as each brand seems different.

I wondered about that, mark! Thanks for the tip. I'll give it a whirl in my meat roasting experiments. You never know, it might make all the difference.

You say that the food seems to be cooking ok until you take the foil off? My fan oven stops when the door is opened, just wondering if the same thing happens to yours and then doesn't come back on again. Just a thought.

GEEGEE - I think that might be a very good idea! Can you imagine their faces if I turn up at the table with lovely slices of raw turkey? ;-)
