I have enough points saved on my credit card to obtain a Sony MP3 player. I want to use it to download from https://www.audible.co.uk ie talking books. Will I be able to use it for that site or do I have to get an Apple product?

    i don't think you need an apple device specifically, but you need a device capable of running the software to listen to the track.

    Their is a huge list of compatible players if you click at the top, of page. Personally I'd avoid both Apple & Sony. If you take a look on Amazon your find lots of customer reviews on the latest models, which is worth looking throough before you choose.

    I bought a cheap 2Gig mp3 player for under £50 from Currys. you can download any audio files format, and convert to mp3 using relevant software.
