Free UK landline calls via broadband?

Forgive my ignorance, but I've never before had the need for a landline/VOIP so I know zero! I'm looking for a way to get free calls to UK landlines via my NTL broadband connection. I'm hoping I can get free calls without signing a contract or spending anything. I've had a trawl through this forum, but I don't know where to start! We have a spare ethernet port on our router, is there any way we could connect a phone into this?
Cheers for your help guys!

The only way you are going to get free calls to landlines is by spending some money.
https://www.voipstunt.com for Ten Euro you get 120 days of free calls, 300 mins per week, your Ten Euro isn't lost as you can use it up on chargeable calls and/or outside your 300 mins free / 120 days free days.
Sister company https://www.voipcheap.com offers lower cost calls to UK mobiles, but only 90 days free days per Ten Euro.
There are several other sister services with similar setup.
To connect a standard corded/DECT cordless phone to the router you need an ATA (analogue Telephone adaptor), you can also buy proper VoIP phones that connect to the Ethernet port (not crappy usb toy town phones). It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -

voipstunt, voipcheap, and freecalls are all part of the same company - called Betamax in Germany. They are not 'free' as such as you have to pay around 10 euro (plus vat) to get the free call service for 120 days - but their international rates are still cheap, so you can use up your credit that way. After the 120 days of free calls (including many many international desinations), you pay 1c per minute (1 euro cent, or around 0.7p) -
My personal favorite at the moment is https://www.voipdiscount.com, but you can compare prices of all the betamax voip firms here:

Isn't it 90 days with voipcheap.com0

i could be wrong but as it seems to good to be true but have you tried https://www.webcalldirect.com you just register with a user name -no real name given or credit card etc and you can phone from your landline to other landlines (and some mobiles) for free. there is 3p connection charge. You can even have unlimited trials without registering but the minutes are limited. Note also that even when you register you can only speak for an hour and then you are cut off but you can redial immediately. You get 300 free minutes per week (no rollover). The beauty of this is that it is real phone to real phones and it works....please let me know if I am missing something obvious and that it is in fact hugely expensive?????0

No you're not missing anything, run by the same group as run VoIPStunt, VoIPCheap etc.
Even though VoIPCheap, VoIP Stunt etc usually run VoIP - PSTN, you can also do the same and enter your home phone number and destination number, when doing it this way instead of VoIP-PSTN you are charged the call connection fee.
What happens is their VoIP service (webcalldirect, VoIPCheap, VoIPStunt etc) calls your number and then their VoIP service calls your destination number, so although you are using your home phone, your calls are connected using VoIP other than the obvious link from their system to your home phone and destination phone. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... No its taken from your webcall direct credit.
If your interested in making cheap/free calls to UK geographical numbers from your BT landline consider.
https://www.1899.com just 3p a call. Same price as webcall direct but no restriction on number of calls.
together with Primus Saver 2 completely FREE Evening and Weekend Calls to UK Geographical Numbers.

Also no requirement to top up.It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... Just got a new router and re-setup for Voipcheap to find some changes to pricing! It seems though that you still get free calls to UK landlines for 3 months with a £10 credit (provided you don't use over 300 minutes in any 7 day period)?0
