LLoyds TSB account and their iPod offer

Hi

Just a quick question, looking for a bit of advice.

I opened a student account with Lloyds at the beginning of August, partly for the overdraft and partly for the iPod (mainly for the iPod!). Anyway, I read that you had to put in £500 before the 31st of August to get the iPod, so I asked my dad to put my rent money in early so I could get it. So I wait 28 days for it, like the guy in the branch told me, and it doesnt turn up. I rang the helpline today and the guy said it was only for first year students (i'm going into my 3rd year next month).

Now the info about being a 1st year student was in the leaflet, and I admit I didnt read it properly, BUT the guy who opened my account knew I was going into 3rd year because the letter I gave him as proof of being a student was my letter saying I could be go on to 3rd year. When I asked him about the iPod he said it would get sent out to me 28 days after I deposited £500. He never mentioned it was only for first year students. He definitely knew I was a third year cos we were chatting about what I was going to do when I left, and he definitely said I'd get an iPod.

I know it's partly my fault for not reading the terms and conditions all the way through, but is it partly his fault for not telling me too? Should he have told me that I wouldn't get one rather than tell me it would be there within 28 days? Do you think I could go and tell the manager about it and hope to get something, or is it too much my own fault?

Thanks for your advice

I'd write to the branch manager but I'm pretty sure the application you signed will have stated 1st year students only. If the guy deceived other people the manager might be generous sort you out with something instead, I doubt you would get an iPod of they are out but you might get a proportion of the equivalent value.

Say you are planning on leaving because of it, not because you didn't get the free gift but because you feel you can't trust the advice you are given at the branch. The guy who sold you the account almost certainly knew it was for year 1 students only and was probably just filling his quota.
