Dell Inspiron 530s Wireless Adaptor Problems

I have an internal Broadcom 802.11g network adapter which has been on the blink for a while now. My normal fix is to get under the desk and fiddle with the antenna until the green light on the adapter starts flashing.

But not even that is working tonight.

I can view my wireless network with a strong 4 bars and my netbook/laptop/mobile and wii have no problems connecting.

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks

Also, you say the router is under the desk? If you place it on top of the desk this will give you a clearer signal.

No the PC is under the desk with the antenna at the back of the network adapter. The wireless router is downstairs. I can have the laptop or netbook on my desk and no problems picking up a signal.

It's becoming a right pain now to be honest.

if everything else is ok, update the driver or move the card to a different slot on the motherboard.

is the aerial tightened up against the card?

Windows says the driver is up to date. Aerial is tightened up.

Move the card? Now you're getting technical !!!

Ah this is doing my head in now. I am spending hours trying to get the desktop to connect. The green light labelled 'air' at the back of the network adaptor will just not light up. It's almost as if Windows is disabling it.

Then all of a sudden everything will be working fine again. It is very intermittent.

Any help much appreciated before I get my hammer to it !!!

As sugested by rdpro, try the card in a different (spare) slot. You just need to remove the side panel and it's 2 minute's work. The intermittent failure indicate some kind of intermittent connection problem, so it could be loose in it's slot, especially if you have been levering the antennae about.

Card seems solid in it's slot, even tried in a different slot but no luck. Do I need a new card? I just can't understand how it can be a hardware problem if it still works sometimes.:(

Software problems aren't usually intermittent, so it still points to dodgy hardware. Though you seem to have eliminated a flaky connection.
