I am now re phrasing the question:

When a person dies, can they be buried outside the borough of where they live?
Also same question with cremation?

Because when my Mother died years ago my Father had to get her cousin to sign something so she could be buried in a certain borough of which he didnt come under at the time? Maybe its cause the council paid for it, I dont know I was only young.

I think that if it is an actual body/coffin you have to pay each borough that the hearse goes through to get to you,at least it was when my mum was brought from cheltenham to swansea ferry to go home to Ireland to be buried/ 1997.
If it is just ashes in a cask I dont think you have to,I think it has something to do with ancient burial rites or something.

You can be cremated anywhere but, the fees will usually be higher if you are 'out of area'. Burial is a little more difficult as some cemeteries will only accept people from the local area - owing to pressure on space. Others will accept from out of area but - again - typically the fees are higher.

    No.

The funeral directors have different prices depending on where you wish the deceased to be buried.

You are normally buried where the family arrange the funeral directors and live, not where the deceased has actually lived.

Also as I stated before the graveyard may not be in the same borough due to land shortages, the change in borough boundaries over the years and various arrangements. It's common in London for example for the local cemetery to be two boroughs away.

Hence I have family members who died in different parts of London buried in the same same cemetery which is named as the borough cemetery but not in that actual borough it's named after.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p
