Toyota are better value and reliability than the VAG anyday. OP do not go for a car which is £5.5k without air con, even my £600 fiesta has air con.

Well apart from the 6-8 million cars/trucks recalled in late 2009-2010. I do like cars from the VAG group,

I think that you are confusing " reliability " with American Politics and media hype.

It's personal prefernce and predudice. There are few unreliable cars today, largely I think down to the interbreeding and common parts bin so common today.

Get whatever YOU prefer but don't go for basic spec, I'm pretty sure you will regret that very quickly. ;)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

i agree that air con really is a must on a car, if you are travelling a distance and get caught in a traffic jam without air con :(
    Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

I think some people are confusing Toyota from the days when we had British leyland and we made cars that didn't work and Toyota did. If you look at the surveys you will find Toyota is no better than Ford, Skoda, VW etc.

By all means by a Toyota but don't pay more for one thinking it will be more reliable than a Ford because it probably won't.

Take a 100mile journey down or up the MI and then tell me if you spot more broken down Fords on the hard shoulder than Nissans, (pre Renault), and Toyotas. Answer; you won't. And I apologuise here in advance as this is not a racist post, but look and see how many of these cars are owned driven by none white Britains, they seem to have fallen for the oriental version of total reliability far more easily than the more austin/morris subjected individuals are likely too???????????? ;)

I agree with the Toyota reliability, they're still far better in that respect than most other MFR's..... Not one UK Toyota was found to have the recent reported faults with the throttle or brakes, but Toyota still replaced parts on perfectly healthy cars just to give peace of mind to their owners.

I'd rather have a Toyota on the motorway than say a Clio with it's bonnet flying up and smashing into the windscreen.

My uncles Skoda Superb is now on 140,000 miles the only thing to go wrong with it is the cam belt which snapped - his fault not the cars.

My mate had a Focus he took upto 120,000 before selling it, all that went wrong with it was brakes and shocks (wear and tear).

Both me and my other mate have Pandas both have been completly faultless.

My dads got a 13 year old Fiesta, its done nearly 90k all city miles and yes rust is killing it but the clutch, engine and gearbox all as new. Its never failed the MOT for emissions and it passed last years MOT with flying colours, it passed this year with just a bit of welding.

My Vauxhall Corsa was a bit of a lemmon but that was bad luck as much as it was down to the car.

My friend has a 1.2 16v Clio now on 78k, all she has done in that time as it had it serviced three times, changed the pads and two new tyres. It has missed some oil changes and really could do with some new plugs but its never let her down.
