No Claims Bonus 2nd Car headache

Hi All,

I've built up 10 year no claims bonus on my car insurance for my mini. My wife is a named driver for the last 3 years.

I've just bought a second car, an Audi A3, for my to drive and my wife can drive the Mini.

However when I took out the insurance on my Audi A3 i said i had 10 years no claims bonus. I now understand you cant do this.

Can anyone recommend how I sort this out without is costing me more money ?

If you have only very recently taken out the new policy (ie the one where you have wrongly claimed full NCD), it might be best to cancel (under the cooling off period) and start again. If it is too late for this, it may be cheaper to pay the additional premium for having no NCD than cancelling.

But if you can do this, (ie cancel the new policy), then see if your present insurer will mirror your NCD on the additional car.

If this fails, do some quotes with companies that do offer this (eg morethan) and see if it would be cost effective to cancel the mini insurance and have both cars with the same insurer.

If all this fails, put the most expensive to insure car on your current policy (thereby getting the best value out of the NCD), and see if a local broker can get you any introductory discount for a new policy on the second car.
