Cheap Christmas cards?

Last January, I was NOT a money saver, so missed out on all those lovely Christmas Card sale bargains! Apart from the obvious of posting early to use second class rates, any ideas how I can save money on the Christmas card front? I really don't want to send those hideuos, flimsy photograph of bauble ones that are so thin they can't even stand up on their own, but the reasonable quality cards I have looked at so far seem to cost in excess of 25p
each. Help appreciated!

The Studio catalogue are having a Christmas sale (yes, I know, mad!) - their stuff is usually reasonable quality (https://www.24studio.co.uk)0

Have you looked in woolworths recently (it must be a nationwide thing as it has appeared on other threads on the boards too) ?...they have had last years christmas cards/decorations on sale. I got my daughters some cute fairy christmas cards for £1 which should of been £2.99 and a box of disney cards for 50p.
They still had some in our local store a couple of days ago..so you may be lucky.0 -
Yeah, Studio for me too. They have nice little cards that are good quality. Last year I used Tesco cards that were cheap. DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

Can you cut your list down? I stopped sending cards to people like distant relatives who I never see, and people who I felt obliged to send a card to because they sent me one, like friends of my ex.
If you work, I'm sure a plate of home made biccies or something instead of cards would go down well. Here I go again on my own....0 -
How about e-cards for fellow computer users on your list, just use Google and you should get a good choice of cards to email to people for free. Can't get much better than that!0

If you still have last years laying around cut the fronts off & send as Christmas postcards;) If you feel this is too mean you can always add a postscript about having a environmentally conscience Christmas & giving the saved money to charity & then send a small donation to friends of the earth or the woodland trust or something.

Thanks all, some really good ideas there that hadn't occured to me before - DOH! We have a Woolies near me - a Big W, actually - so I'll head off there for a nosey and have looked on the Studio website, too.
Whatever happens, I promise myself that this time I will snap up all those January sale bargains and stash them under the spare bed until next Christmas!
Thanks again, all :j0 -
The pound shops usually do decent boxes of Xmas cards and obviously they cost a £1."Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."0

Get out in the garden/countryside and pick some leaves and flowers to press. For example, bits of conifer, pressed, look like mini xmas trees. If you don't find anything specific like that, a basic design could be a piece of coloured card, with a smaller rectangle in a contrasting colour on the front, with a couple of tastfully placed pressed flower/leaves. Silver pen/calligraphy pen to write happy christmas. Hey presto, tasteful, home made card.
You can get the card fairly cheap from art shops. Ideally buy large sheets and chop it up (with a craft knife), as its cheaper. If you're not confident with that, places like costco, wilkinsons, art shops will do pre-cut card. Buy cheap envelopes from a pound shop.0 -
The Studio cards look really nice to me - does anyone know if they are a nice quality paper and envelope? I have cards that come with those really cheap rough envelopes. My Auntie cuts the fronts of her Christmas cards and then sticks this onto the front of a piece of folded white card and sticks on a little computer made label saying that she is trying to be a bit more environmentally friendly! It's actually just moneysaving because she is using just as much card but she saves a small fortune!!Jane
