Buildings insurance claim dispute - help!

Hi
I have never come across Insurers rejecting a claim because someone has not entered a room in a house they live in for two months, in over twenty years dealing with claims. Having said that, I don't think I've ever had anyone say that before! Is it a very big house???
I suspect your Insurers are thinking either that you were away and the house was unoccupied. I think you said there was a 60 day unoccupancy clause. Can you prove you were therre? It shouldn't really be necessary......
Or they are thinking of the exclusion "gradually operating cause" - this excludes damage which occurs over a long period of time. you need to read your policy and see what the exclusions are and how it is worded.
I'd give them another call and ask exactly what the reason is they are rejecting your claim and ask them where the exclusion is in the policy. If necessary ask them to put the reason in writing - I say this because it can be difficult trying to remember everything that is said in a phone conversation, especially if they are getting technical.
I'm on holiday for a week now, but I hope you can get this sorted out.

I wouldn't say on the basis of entering the room regularly, but on allowing the damage to worsen so much (by whatever means) - yes it's certainly a posibility that they might have cause to refute the claim or reduce payout. Again, I would certainly fight to get something off them, but (and heavens help me for supporting an insurance company) I don't think they are entirely in the wrong.Don't bother trying to sue me - I've got no money!0
