Is this a way to improve credit history?

TBH I'm not sure. It may be worth getting in contact with Equifax.
It states on their own website:
"Credit agreement information remains on your credit report for a period of six years from the date that the account was settled or defaulted, whichever occurs first."
As you default occured before the settlement it should have gone in 2009 if your default date is 2003

Ok, will get in touch with them tomorrow. If I can get them wiped and force Virgin(in process of getting Default notices, proofs etc) to remove their - I would be sorted(at least with Equifax).0
