    God I'm bored.

I checked out some other houses in Laurencekirk - it's beautiful. Bit pricey though. Maybe that hut is a bargain.

    Here's a link.

Interesting it seems to indicate that 1 bed properties have dropped 15% in a month? Scroll down.. right hand side.

edit: Nearest shops look miles away. Just as I thought.

What is this obsession with shops?

I like the proud display of fresh produce. "Look" it says, "Fresh food, and in Scotland!!!"

Only jesting, it looks idyllic. And apart from the language barrier I think I might be able to cope.

edit: @WS. I use shops in order to purchase produce that I might be able to consume. For example a breakfast, or maybe dinner. It's a little foible I have - the desire to be able to eat.

People can't just move randomly around the country, perchance to hope to get a job, so they can buy a house.

We're all where we are for all kinds of reasons .... and sane people don't go randomly unrooting themselves to give a new area a whirl. It's too expensive and risky.

I do find it surprising that from various conversations in the past on these boards, many people who would think nothing of commuting 45 mins to 1 hour each way by tube/bus/rail in London/SE feel driving the same time is unreasonable.
There is a difference commuting for 1 hour when you aren't driving and concentrating, and when you are.
I find the driving to be much more relaxing and productive, I can catch up on news, listen to podcasts, speak to my colleagues by phone about the days business, etc.
I find on the tube/bus/rail that I can read. And the tube has the advantage that no-one can phone you or they can but they will soon get cut off.

And of course it's efficient, as it's door to door with most companies up here providing plentiful free parking. There is no extra 10-15 mins to walk to the station/destination at each end of the commute.
    Damn I would get fat.

    But maybe that's just me....

    Yep it's just you. :rotfl:
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

This Good Food shop is a minute's walk away from Hamish's suggested house. Might stock your dates.

I know but it would be brilliant fun.

As to the language barrier, Hamish probably has far less of an accent than I do. Aberdonians have a very soft, almost english sounding speaking voice.

Playing the game in Cornwall, where is the cheapest 3-bed house .... £99,950.
http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-30626681.html - but it looks suspiciously "cornish unit" to me, which are pretty unmortgageable.

So, the next one was £100k - timber framed, with a flat roof, so probably a mortgage problem.

So the next one was £100k: http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-16626411.html - which looks lovely. Says it could benefit from some modernisation, which means it's livable in. There's a coal bunker, so I bet no central heating.

Well I've lived all over the world, and always got the job first, then moved. Novel concept, I know.....

Anyhow, Aberdeen has 3% unemployment (1% before the recession) and the highest wages in Scotland, with cheap living nearby and stunning scenery all around. Actually, forget I said that. It's awful up here, none of you would like it.:D

But seriously, this whole "houses are too expensive" thing really does seem to be a London/SE problem.

The other 80% of the country has reasonably affordable housing within a reasonable distance of major employment hubs.
