    Ring the DSA for further advice, they will no doubt confirm my post above.

    More info regarding the matter;

    "
    * Are you the right person?
    * Are you correctly insured?
    * Check with your insurance company
    * You must be over 21 and held a full licence for the appropriate type of vehicle for at least 3 years
    * If you hold a full licence for an automatic car you must not supervise someone who is learning with a manual gearbox

    * You are responsible for any driving offences committed by your driver whilst you are supervising
    * Run a red light and you get the points too
    * Talking on your mobile whilst supervising your driver also earns you points on your licence "

    He would be far better having proper lessons anyway instead of picking up bad habbits. Lessons from family should only be in addition to proper lessons.

    I think that is what the OP intended.

    The following provides the answer,
    https://www.askthe.police.uk/content/Q357.htm ;-

    " In order to supervise a learner driver you must,
    • be at least 21 years old and
    • have held a full EC licence for the appropriate category of vehicle for at least 3 years.
    Failure to comply with these requirements could mean a maximum fine of £1,000, discretionary disqualification or 3-6 penalty points (the learner driver could also face the same penalties).
    Red L (L or D plates in Wales) must be affixed to the front and rear of the car and must be clearly visible."

    Also from Direct.gov

    If you want to practice your driving with an accompanying driver, the accompanying driver must be over the age of 21 and must have held (and still hold) a full licence, in the relevant vehicle category, for three years.
