  • I bought 2 hot chocolates from a service station to drink in the car- they were expensive and cost £2 each (pre DFW days obviously!). They were nothing more than flavoured water so I wrote to complain and got a voucher for £10!

I once had a nightmare battle with BT who kept failing to install a new line at a flat I'd bought some years ago. I wrote a huge complaint which went into detail about the problems and got £275!!

    Debt-free and Proud!
    Just thought of another one!

I was getting NTL installed, the full kit caboodle of phone, internet & TV. Anyway I booked the day & time through their website, took the morning off work and sat in my flat, and sat, and sat... When I managed to get hold of them they had no record of the booking - agreed to come on a Saturday morning as I refused to take another day off work & gave me free phone line rental for a year (£114!)

  • I stayed at a Hilton (ok, it was Green Park, London) and there was a used condom wrapper under the bed. My gf went mental at the receptionist and we got the night free. Result.

Back in my student days I had just started preparing my evening meal when the H£inz Spagetti tin I was opening revealed a muddy brown sauce (maybe the bright orange dye had run out?) I wrote a letter and got vouchers for £1.50! Kept me fed for a week!
Fiscal drag, that's my problem. Too many people dragging on my fiscals.

I'm a newbie to complaining, but egged on by my friend who is the queen of the complaint letter I wrote to M&S about a bra that fell apart after 2 washes, Fox's about a dodgy biscuit, John West about some large shards of bone found in one of their tins of tuna (I sent them the pieces of bone in a little plastic bag lol), and McDonalds about a recent bad experience in one of their restaurants.

I have so far received £18 in M&S vouchers and an £8 postal order from John West. No response from Fox's (bah....was hoping for some free biscuits:)), McDonalds left me an answerphone message saying they were going to contact me again soon (they haven't). But still, it was well worth the price of a couple of stamps and a few polite but firm letters.

Oh and I also recently had a meal in a restaurant and the chicken was a bit gristly - I mentioned it to the waiter (I didn't make a proper complaint, just mentioned that the food was lovely but had been let down a bit by the manky chicken), and they refunded the whole meal (it was only £6 as it was a lunchtime special, but still a good result!).

Not sure if I'm going to become a serial complainer, because I feel a bit guilty when I complain (I know I shouldn't but I'm a bit of a wuss!), but I'm pleased with the responses I've had so far.
    "I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough."
