Proble with credit rating

in Credit cards
I consider myself to be fairly credit-worthy, but I was refused a store card the other day and so checked my credit report online and it says I have a poor credit rating. I don't have a large amout of debt and am up to date with repayments on my credit card. What seems to be hitting my credit rating is that I had a lot of searches of my credit record in the last few months.
This is because I have been trying to apply for a new current accout and new credit card recently but after applying online I heard nothing back from the bank I was applying to (Santander) twice and so each time applied again. It seems that on each occasion they did a credit check but didn't write to me to let me know whether I had been approved or not. Therefore, these two applications have show up as 6 credit checks in the last month which is hitting my credit rating fairly hard. Does anyoe know of a way I can get these removed from my record for the reasons above - that the same search has been duplicated??

where did you see your credit report online? and how did it say you had a bad rating?0

I used creditexpert.co.uk and looked up my full Experian rating number and it reported that my score was 'poor' on this rating (around 600).0

Money saving tip. Don't waste your money on Experian Scores. They are basically meaningless numbers. Each lender has their own formula for calculating scores so the score you pay Experian for is pointless.0

Although in fairness the score is absolutely right in it's assessment that six searches in one month will make the OP very un-credit worthy.
Follow this link:
https://www.creditreporthelp.experian.co.uk/statutorydisputes/
And raise statutory disputes against all of the credit searches. State in your text "The creditor incorrectly searched me without actually performing a credit analysis on me ergo multiple duplicates of unauthorized searches".
Experian will contact the creditor and seek their consent to remove the searches from your file. This process can take a month or two. Don't make any applications whatsoever in the mean time.
If after two months the searches are still there, you'll have to live with it. Also, very importantly after two months contact Experian again via the same link requesting that they remove the notice of correction from your file. This is very important for allowing lenders to make automated decisions about you.
If the searches are removed, once the NOC is also removed, you can re-apply for another current account. Although stay away from Santander - just do a google search for "Santander Complaints".
HSBC is widely regarded as one of the best high street banks.
If the searches aren't removed, wait until the NOC is removed (as I say you need to ask for it to be removed after a couple of months and wait for this to be done) and then keep the credit applications down to one every two to three months tops and you'll be OK. Any more and you represent a risk due to being "credit desperate".Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

Why were these unaiuhorized or duplicates??
The OP admits applying multiple times.
I guess there is no harm is trying but I can't see the logic.
When they didn't hear back surely it would have made sense to make enquiries rather than re-apply.
Applying again would have given authorisation for the searches so I can't see that they are either unauthorized or duplicated.
Am I missing something?0 -

No, it's just a tad of bluff. Works pretty well though IME
