Surveyors

Hi Guys,

Ive got a survey on a house I want to buy taking place on Tuesday and Ive heard its a really good idea to go with the surveyor whilst he is surveying. A friend mentioned it is the best time to ask them questions about the property. Im new to all this so do any of you guys have any suggestions regarding the questions I should be asking. I will obviously be getting a written copy of the survey but would love a little advise from those of you in the know. Thanks for all your help in advance. ZC

I asked my survey company if I could be there at the time of the survey for the same reasons you cite, but they really weren't keen. That being said, I mentioned in advance any particular areas I had concerns / questions about, the surveyor rang me immediately afterwards and of course was prepared to answer any questions I had.

Agreed. Most surveyors would hate the idea of you following them around as the whole job would take significantly longer and you may end up being a distraction.

As Yorkie suggests, just make them aware of any particular concerns you have beforehand, and don't hesitate to ask them about anything they've raised afterwards.

I can't imagine many Surveyors agreeing to your request, I imagine having the borrower following you round would be very distracting. Far better to quizz them once they've completed their report and gathered their thoughts - all your questions may actually be answered in the report.

Have the vendors agreed to your request, many surveys are completed when the vendors are at work - I would not be too happy if my buyers got to snoop round my house while I was not there, and I certainly would not give you consent if you asked.

Ask them questions before if you have specific areas of concern in the property (ie: are the trees too close, is that window level, is the chimney ok) and then get feedback later from them.
