Is it worth paying extra for personal accident cover?

I have a quote with Endsleigh but I've been told by friends that it can be a rip off because PA cover payouts are nominal and we're insured by NHS anyway?? also i read something about every car insurance policy needs to have PA cover by law so it it possible that it already exists and they are just trying to get me to pay £15 extra?

Not true- Car insurance doesn't have to include PA. Most comprehensive cover will include some (limited) cover, TPO and TPFT won't include it more often than not. Even some comprehensive policies will exclude it as a benefit.

So if you lose an eye or a limb the NHS will cover you??

Sure, you will get the medical treatment you need, but you won't get a payout that might help pay for a wheelchair or stair lift.

Personally I wouldn't get it.
I tend to prefer to cover myself for sickness and accident in ANY scenario rather than just a car accident so I'd rather have income protection insurance etc.

I think people should worry about how they would manage if they couldn't work or got ill for ANY reason, rather than just this specific situation. A car accident may not be that statistically likely compared with say other illnesses like cancer, so I would review your general requirements.
