Regarding financial support for OU courses. As long as you do 60points a year - which is equivalent to part time university and are on a low income you can apply for financial assistance. If you qualify for financial assistance you will also receive a grant of £250 pounds each year, which does not need to be paid back and also does not affect benefits.

This year, because a computer was necessary for the particular course I have completed - EK310 Research with children and young people, I received a top up to help towards the cost of a computer, so picked up a grant of £500 which does not need to be repaid, and the computer is mine.

This year, i have studied two courses, and the fee of £800 + was paid for me. As long as you are on a low income - I believe it's less than £12,000 per year, you qualify for financial assistance and it does not affect benefits.
