Copies of Photos in My Pictures

Perhaps one of you knowledgeable folk out there can help. I was looking through "my pictures" and I find that some of the folders have multiple images. There seem to be anything up to 10 copies of some of the pictures. I started to delete the copies, but it appears that more are being generated. (I think).
If anyone has any idea why this should be happening I would be grateful for any replies on the subject.

I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

Sometimes when I'm trying to delete photos (or other file types) & I'm selecting a few together using ctrl or shift I end up making copies of the files I've selected. Usually they're called "copy of whatever" & end up in the same location as the original. This is nothing to do with my computer though and everything to do with my fat fingers on a slightly overly keen mouse !! (odd mental image

What filenames do the originals have, and what filenames do the copies have? What Date Modified and Date Created do the originals and copies have? Are the originals the same file type as the copies?
You may need to switch Explorer into 'Details' view and add headings to get all this info.
How did the originals get onto your PC in the first place?
Do you load pictures onto your PC from the same source every time, or from different sources?0
