a spot of advice please?

Hello,

I've only just registered here but have been looking at the site for a few months now.
i was wondering if anyone could give me some advice?
im currently jobless, but will be starting a really well paid job in about a month - and once i start that i really think everything will be ok.
my problem is what to do now.... i have a massive debt of about 20,000... my overdraft is maxed out and i have terrible credit history.
i need to pay £500 rent and need to live until i get my first pay cheque and i have to make my minimum payments.
i have nothing left to sell...

does anyone have any advice?
and how easy is it to get another overdraft when you have one and have bad credit?
i feel really stuck.

any advice is nice!

Can you explain your situation to your landlord, and try and get a bit of time?
Definitely wouldn't advise going for another overdraft, although your bank may consider temporary extension of your current overdraft facility, for say 3 months, to help, if you explain about job.

  • Can you ask your new employer for an advance in your salary - say after 2 weeks?
  • Hello

    Thanks for your advice.
I dont think my landlord would understand as i have just moved here and this will be my first months rent... i moved here with the intention of starting work straight away but now i have to wait...

i have a graduate account with a 2000 pound overdraft, i called yesterday to see if they can help but unfortunately not without proof of a job, which i dont yet have.
i totally understand where theyre coming from and i probably wouldnt lend me money either... but still!!

It stops from when you start working, otherwise you end up with an overpayment.

    afraid not...

i dont actually have an employer.. im waiting on some paperwork to say i can work, which should be here in a few days - no later than a week. i then have three recruitment agencies who can get me straight into work, as i have all the right experience/qualifications etc and there are the right vacancies.... im just waiting on that form.
so im estimating being in work in a month at the latest...
  • Would your bank give you a temporary extension on the overdraft? Or is there anyone you could borrow the money from?

i dont have HB... to be honest i didnt realise i was entitled to it because ive only just graduated, but it looks like i am. but im not sure if my land lord will accept it - or does it get paid to me?
also... im claiming JSA but as i moved house there was some sort of problem because although i notified them, they closed my claim as i didnt attend my sign on... and I now have to wait for the claim to go through all over again, which takes ages.
    im in such a pickle!
  • If you're on JSA you can claim HB and council tax benefit. You can complete the form to ask them not to contact your landlord and have the money paid directly to you and then you pay your landlord.
