    But I think its easier to be known by being in a shop in full display then being on the web as a nobody

    Just because you blog doesn't mean you are a no-body! Some people make a living from blogging and have become very successful doing it. I'd set up a blog, write posts for a few weeks, then get on Twitter and look for like-minded people. Interact with them and make a name for yourself as an expert, and soon they'll be lining up to read it!

    Add Google AdWords to make a small amount of income, and see if it progresses. You can also guest blog on other peoples blogs (look at myguestblog.com) to get people to visit your blog.

    If you do want to do a magazine, I'd suggest doing a small, homemade/photocopied guide to computers for a target audience (maybe the elderly or teens) - sell it at a local level at fairs/community events etc and see what the interest is like.
