Faulty Camera from Very

Options
Hi all,

I bought a camera from Very on 25/06/2010.

I don't normally buy from catalogues but I had a voucher as I'd bought my home insurance via their website and the camera was on special offer, £59 before the voucher deduction.

I paid for it and I was exceptionally happy with it until yesterday when the shutter refused to shut across the lens. We were out and about so by the time we got home, it was too late to ring Very.

So, this morning, I went and rang them, asking for it to be returned for a refund or repair. I was told I could return it for a refund only and that was fine. The girl I spoke with was helpful but she cut me off before I could get the returns address. I searched online for it but couldn't find anything definate, so I called again.

This time I got through to a girl who said no, it could not be returned, it had to go back to Nikon for repair only. I knew this might not be the case so I did a check on my rights and I found that I didn't have to return the camera to Nikon but to Very as the retailer. So, called back again, spoke to a man, so said he honestly didn't know, said he would speak to a supervisor, he did but he cut me off in the process.

I then got back through to someone else (this is about an hour after I started!) who says I should just return it through royal mail anyway but I wanted to know if I am getting a refund, repair or replacement of my camera, I actually don't mind either way but Very are being very evasive or whether they'll just say no refund, replacement or repair.

I also (stupidly, probably I know now), bought the extended 3 year warranty and no-one call tell me if this will get refunded.

Can I have some advice please?! :A

If given a refund, any agreements as a result of this should also be refunded (the warranty).

They should put you back in the same position you were in before purchasing.

Of course they may just repair/replace as this may be the cheaper option for them but if you are happy with that then there shouldnt be a problem :)

  • Thank you.

I think the real issue at the moment is I don't know if they are collecting and I don't know the address to return it to, when I have gone back through to them on the phone, there is always a different story about returning it, not being able to return it or what!

Just cannot get a straight answer from them!

From their website, it doesnt detail about returning faulty items outside of their 14 day guarantee period.

I'm afraid you'll have to call them again or email perhaps?

    Try charging it?
  • Nothing to do with charging it I'm afraid, it runs on AA batteries and I have tried various brands of batteries in it (all new) and it makes no difference, it just appears the shutter has stopped working.

Have sent off a recorded delivery letter to Very asking them to collect and replace or repair the camera within 7 days as per the Sale of Goods Act, hope this does the trick.

When you bought the item it will have a packing receipt with it, on that receipt is a returns label and returns sheet to fill out and put in the parcel, they will collect if you ask.

No such thing about 7 days in the sales of goods act
  • I have tried asking them to collect it, the problem is they say they can't and the one girl who says she thought she managed it but said she couldn't be sure and if the courier didn't collect it I should send it by royal mail myself, which I will do but my issue is, as such, they have not agreed to the return.

I have sent a letter asking for collection (ideally this is what I want them to do so I know they have agreed to it being returned) within a reasonable timescale which I deem to be 7 days from the receipt of the letter, luckily someone PM'd me a standard letter that apparently works so will see what they say.
