insuring car on chassis no?
I have an old french car that I would like to re-register in the UK.
So far have been quoted £300 a month  by specialist brokers more used to insuring the top end imports. Does anyone know of a co that will insure (far more reasonably priced) on a chassis no until the car's conversion and papers are registered with the DVLA?
Once the car has UK plates, the insurance I'm being quoted by comparison sites is about £300 p.a!

My Irish Yaris was insured with Direct line on it's chassis number, then I stayed with them when I got the Uk plates.
But I was only allowed to drive the car if it was connected to getting things done in preperation for the transfer to Uk plates.0 -

These are among a few companies who specialize in classic cars, don't know if they are of any use.
Other half is looking at insurance for our 1988 american car at the moment, current insurer has put it up 45% since last time:eek:0 -
Why not just get to your local DVLA office and sort it out? I did that about 15 years ago and as far as can remember it was all fairly fast and straightforward.0

DVLA can only register it if it's insured and insurers can only insure it if it's registered. It's like kafka out there they make it tough to do. My french neighbour took 6 months to sort his out.
I may sell the car but would not get another one as good for the money.
One of the brokers you mention above is the £300 a month lot! I will try DL, thanks0 -
When I worked at DVLA we would advise people to contact BIBA for help with insuring imported vehicles on their chassis number.
I've also worked for the Admiral insurance group and they used to insure on chassis number too.

Is there an owners club and forum? Others owners may be able to suggest insurance companies that give reasonable quotes?0
