Silicone and Black Stain! Help!

Hello
I need to replace the silicone around the bath and it's a job I've managed to do before but I need some advice please. At the taps end of the bath there is a 2 inch space approx between the bath and the wall. I have had to do this job twice over the years. Who ever installed the bath first time used a piece of wood to wedge in along the space and this is what I have continued to do. Once this is done I have tiled it over and seeled with silicone. Please can someone tell me if there is a better way of bridging this gap without having to reposition the bath so that I do not have problems with black stain coming through the silicone.
Thank you so much.

You might get a better response if you post in the DIY section, not the 'is this quote fair' section.
Try using a piece of cement backer board, rather than wood, though I can't see why you should be getting staining coming through the silicon anyway?
