There is no need in having your current account and your credit card with the same bank. Keep your HSBC card to build some credit history. Also making 10 applications during short period of time was a huge mistake. See Credit Rating link in the blue box above ...0

Keep your HSBC card - after 4-to-6 months, you can ask them to increase your credit limit. It's a good starter card (I have one myself... started with a £250 limit, now have £1500 nearly a year later lol)
It doesn't matter that you've switched to RBS, you can use the HSBC card to build up your credit rating, and try and wait AT LEAST 6 months, or preferably a year before applying for another credit card. This will give your credit rating a chance to repair itself!
Once you've had your RBS account for a while, it might be worth popping into a branch and see if they'll offer you a credit card too?0 -
Hey,
I am 18 myself and in a quite similar situation. I got a HSBC card with a limit of £500 in june. I called them a week ago and she increased the credit limit to £1500. You might want to try this as well. I have also applied for AMEX Red, but haven’t heard anything yet.0
