Remove regional lock from DVD drive

There is a better, cleaner, solution: don't change the region setting.
There are many progs that sit between your optical drive and your PC. They tell the PC that the DVD being played is "Region Free and Protection Free". Essentially, it means that if you put a USA Region 1 disc in your PC, it thinks it's Region 0 and will quite happily play the disc.
I use DVD43 (just google it). It's free and it works. Slysoft also do a prog called "Any DVD", but you have to pay for that one.In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0 -
Laz123 - thank you for the suggestion. However, the products you have suggested seem to be for standalone DVD players, rather than for computer drives.
Oscar The Grouch - DVD43 is an interesting suggestion, thanks. However, it describes itself as a "decrypter" for copying DVD's. Have I misunderstood, or is it intended for copying DVD's that would otherwise not be copiable, due to their encryption? What I really need is something that will make the regional lock on a DVD "invisible" to the computer, so that I can play multi-regional DVD's. Is that the same thing? If it is, do you have to copy the contents of the DVD on to your computer before playing it?0 -
Penners. According to VideoHelp: "DVD43Free is a small, free tool that integrates into Windows XP/2000/Vista and overrides DVD-Video copy-protection and DVD Region limitations."
Note, however, that the current version is for 32-bit operating systems only (including W7) - it won't install on 64-bit.0 -
reflash and use rpc1.org0

One very simple, and slightly clunky, alternative is to get another DVD drive (either internal or external) and set it to Region 1...0

Any DVD from Slysoft although payware, is a good solution as it works with any DVD drive internal or external attached to the system, there is also a HD version for Blu-Ray, as playing back Blu Ray can be problematic if your screen is not HDCP compatible. It works OK on 64bit Windows 7 as well0

Hmm, I've run VLC on vista for about 2 years now, just tried to download it again though (Recently upgraded and this thread reminded me) and got an error from all the mirrors.
Somewhat disappointing, such a nice program0
